So what happened?!
I think it was 2019 when my website broke. I couldn't access the Wordpress admin and it was just PHP errors everywhere 😩 I'm no PHP wizard so I had no idea how to fix it, got in a hump and closed it down until I had the energy to start all over.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to start all over because my hard drive died on me (now I have an SSD) and I lost all my current designs and WIP designs 😭 Then I well and truly gave up. UNTIL! Photobucket recently sent me an email saying they no longer offered free image hosting so I went through them and managed to salvage a lot of old avatars and banners I made. That gave me some determination and I prayed to the web gods while Way Back Machine loaded and I managed to salvage almost all my old content 🙌 I have forever lost the PSDs and WIP templates I had but a win is a win, I will take it!
Improvements from now on
So! It's 2023 and the technology has advanced a ton since this website was around. Glorious cloud technology is now a thing and Renders are now stored on Google Drive. This will help reduce disk usage on my hosting and reduce the risk of losing files / backups.
Headless CMS is now a thing which essentially means I don't need to manage the back end. I don't need to touch PHP and C#, just focus on JavaScript / content. I am using Contentful as my CMS of choice and I'm using Vue 3 as my JavaScript framework of choice. I specialise in React in my job so I wanted to explore Vue on the side to make sure I'm not putting all my eggs in one basket.
Tutorials are coming soon and will be my next update. I will be doing a lot of Vue 3 tutorials which I will be writing as I learn and build 🙂 I also want to get back into Gaming reviews but that will be further into the future.
I wanted to re-open the website with a brand new template but I'm still deciding on how to style the content elements and footer and I wanted to get the site out ASAP. So for now I have re-purposed an older template and built it in Vue. There's still some things I need to sort out like pagination and Disqus which you might notice magically appear over the next couple of weeks.
Web templates are now stored in Github which again reduces risk of losing and makes it easier to publish updates / amends. I selected my highest quality templates from 2013 - 2016 and they are available on a single repo. New templates from now on will have their own repo because they will be built in Vue / Vite.
I used to have an icon archive site called Dream Fortress. I'm going to keep them on Vizune now because it's easier to manage one single site. I will no longer be making more 100x100 avatars. I am no longer making Forum Signatures, Facebook Covers, Twitter Headers and Desktop Wallpapers so I re-purposed old ones as 200 x 200 & 400 x 400 avatars. I have a total of: 136 100x100 avatars, 15 200x200 avatars, 17 400x400 avatars
